C.J. Petrin and
Josh Imhoff each flirted with a 300 game and each finished in the top 20 individually for Oklahoma Christian in the Tier I Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic, which finished a two-day run on Sunday at Stardust Bowl.
As a team, OC finished 15th of 68 teams with a score of 9,206 over five team games on Saturday and 20 Baker games on Sunday. The Eagles entered the tournament ranked No. 18 in the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association poll and No. 19 in the International Bowling Media Association poll.
On Sunday, the Eagles rolled nine Baker games of 200 or higher, topped by a 233 in game 3, finishing with a second-day total of 3,984. In team play on Saturday, OC posted a score of 5,222.
Petrin, a freshman from Chattanooga, Tenn., rolled a 299 in his first game on Saturday, missing only one pin in his final frame. He later added games of 225, 229 and 224 and finished ninth among 432 players with a score of 1,170 over five games.
Imhoff, a junior from Cabot, Ark., took a perfect game into the 10th and final frame in game three and finished with a 279. He also had games of 232 and 234 while recording an overall score of 1,129, good for a 16th-place showing.
A third OC player, sophomore
Trey Maloy of Guthrie, Okla., also had a perfect score heading into the 10th frame of his second individual game before finishing with a 267. That came after he'd posted a 224 in his first game.
Freshman
Nathan Curnutt of Cocoa, Fla., rolled games of 210, 225 and 214 for the Eagles, while freshman Israel Revels of Aguascalientes, Mexico (215) and freshman
Jake DeVoe of Richardson, Texas (201) each rolled a game of 200 or better for OC.
St. Ambrose (Iowa) won the team title with a score of 10,021, while Cameron Crowe of St. Ambrose took top individual honors with a score of 1,233.
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend, playing in the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit V tournament at USA Bowl in Dallas on Saturday and the SWIBC VI tournament at Plano Super Bowl in Plano, Texas, on Sunday.
