OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 30, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian's club bowling teams will open their 2021-22 seasons this weekend with a pair of Tier II tournaments in Dallas.
Five OC squads – three men's and two women's – will compete in the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit I and II tournaments, which will be held Saturday and Sunday, respectively, at USA Bowl.
"We are excited to get the season started at SWIBC I and II in Dallas this weekend," OC coach
James Hayes said. "We are taking five teams, so this will really give us a chance to see where the athletes are at and help us prepare for our first Tier I tournament in Wichita in two weeks. The men's team is very deep, with three full teams traveling, while the ladies are a little lean, but we will split them up and bowl two teams to get everyone on the lanes."
In the SWIBC I event on Saturday, OC's teams will bowl five regular team games (to determine individual honors) and then 12 Baker games. The format will be different for SWIBC II on Sunday, as teams will bowl seven regular team games. Each tournament will start at 7:45 a.m.

OC's women's and men's teams both have qualified for collegiate bowling's postseason in each of their first three seasons of existence. Last season, Imhoff became the first OC bowler to qualify for the Intercollegiate Singles Championship and was named to the first-team All-America list. Pelkie was OC's top female player, ranking 35th nationally in scoring average.
Hayes is hopeful to see his teams – who both have won Tier II tournaments during the programs' brief histories – take the next step this season and begin competing for titles in Tier I events and perhaps qualify for the Intercollegiate Team Championship.
"The teams have put in the time on the lanes and in the gym and now it's time to see this hard work in action," Hayes said. "Our teams have really grown and they are full of some great competitors that I know are ready to get competitions kicked off."
