Evans becomes chairman of LSC sports information advisory group

OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 4, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian's Murray Evans is the new chairman of the Lone Star Conference's sports information directors' advisory group.

Evans, who just started his 11th year as OC's assistant athletic director for communications/sports information director, was elected as the group's vice chairman last August and moved into the chairman role on Wednesday during an annual meeting of the league's SIDs, conducted via Zoom.

As the group chairman, Evans' responsibilities will include helping prepare the agenda for (and sometimes leading) its monthly meeting and providing pertinent information and updates from the group to the LSC's Council of Athletics Administrators and conference office.

He will serve a two-year term.

The role of a LSC advisory group is to coordinate daily operations and uphold conference policies within the group's particular area of specialization, as well as to consider and recommend proposals to present in writing to both the Councils of Faculty Athletics Representatives and Athletics Administrators pertaining to matters involving the best interests of the conference.

At OC, Evans' responsibilities include creating content for and maintaining the university's athletic website, producing news releases, serving as the official scorer and statistician for OC athletics, maintaining historical records for OC's 17 varsity and six club sports, overseeing athletic social media accounts, handling award nominations, serving on OC's Athletic Hall of Fame committee, answering media queries and coordinating game operations and video streaming at OC home athletic events.

Starting with the 2020-21 season, he became the national coordinator for the Division II Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA) women's basketball poll, after serving as a national poll voter and regional poll coordinator the previous six seasons. He also is a voter in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's weekly region poll and votes on the NCBWA's All-South Central Region team. He began serving on the College Sports Information Directors of America's Fred Stabley Jr. Writing Contest Committee in July 2019.
