EDMOND, Okla. - The Oklahoma Christian Athletics family mourns the passing of Hall of Fame member and former long-time Sports Information Director Stan Green.

Green spent 40 years in sports information, serving as Oklahoma Christian's SID for 18 years after serving as director of public relations at Harding from 1965-87. Green became OC's first full-time SID in 1997 after serving as the director of public relations for the institution beginning in 1989 before retiring in 2007.

A member of the 1987 NAIA Hall of Fame, Green was the President of NAIA-SIDA from 1974-76, served as Information Chairman of NAIA District 17 from 1967-87 and earned the NAIA Award of Merit in 1972 and again in 1976, along with the the NAIA Ike Pearson Award for the Sports Information Director of the Year in 1979. In 1984-85, Green served on a National 12-member NAIA Task Force on Government and Goals to assess and develop long-range goals for the organization.

In 1981 and again in 1984, Green conducted the first demographic surveys of the College Sports Information Directors of America membership. The survey detailed salary levels, age and experience/training, work conditions and responsibilities, etc.

During his career, Green was named the Employee of the Year at Harding in 1979 and at Oklahoma Christian in 1991. While being named the top employee at OC, Green was selected to the Harding University Hall of Fame that same year. Later, Green would be honored as a member of the 2006 CoSIDA Hall of Fame class and the Oklahoma Christian Hall of Fame, alongside his bride and fellow inductee Betty Green, for Meritorious Service in 2009.

In his 35-plus years as a sports information director, Green received more than 70 awards from CoSIDA and the NAIA, including six "best in the nation" awards. In addition, he has received more than 100 design and publication awards from the American Alumni Council, American College of Public Relations, Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, the International Association of Business Communicators and Admissions Marketing.

Born August 24, 1937 in Waldo, Ark., Green grew up in Pasadena, Texas, before graduating from the University of Houston in 1959. Green is survived by his wife of 68 years, the former Betty Gray of Lockhart, Texas, and their three children and five grandchildren.
