Norby, Brictson, Pulcini make GCAA All-Region honor list

NORMAN, Okla. (June 25, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian men's golf standouts Trevor Norby, Andres Brictson and Mateo Pulcini each earned recognition Friday on the All-South Central Region list for NCAA Division II, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

It's the second straight year, and the third time overall, that OC has landed multiple players on the All-Region team since the university began competing at the Division II level with the 2012-13 season. The Eagles also had three players honored in 2015-16 (Sam Johnston, Zac Schaefer and Alejandro Valenzuela). OC has had at least one player make the All-Region list in eight of the program's nine Division II seasons.

The trio of Norby, Brictson and Pulcini led the Eagles to the Lone Star Conference title and the No. 1 seed in the Division II South Central Region entering the NCAA postseason. The Eagles posted a 93-10-2 record this season against Division II competition, winning five tournaments and finishing second in two others.

"I am very proud of our three All-Region performers this season," OC coach David Lynn said. "Our depth was one of our biggest assets in 2020-21. Trevor's season will go down as one of our most remarkable seasons for any individual performer here at OC. Mateo was extremely consistent this season and was very close to winning a couple of events. Andres was great in spurts, winning twice and playing a lot of very solid golf."

Norby, a senior from Carlsbad, Calif., made the All-Region list for a third straight season, joining Johnston (a four-time honoree) as the only OC players ever to receive as many as three All-Region awards.

Norby's season scoring average of 71.18 over 28 rounds (20 of those at or below par) was the lowest in OC history, breaking the former record of 71.3, which had been shared by two OC Athletic Hall of Famers, Juan Lizzaralde (2003-04) and Bruno Buccolo (2006-07). Norby's career scoring average of 71.42 over 79 rounds also is tops in program history.

He was a finalist for the Division II Nicklaus Award, presented to the player of the year, and was the Division II male representative on the winning U.S. team in the just-completed Arnold Palmer Cup, played this year at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. He was the first OC player to compete in the event, considered one of the most prestigious in amateur golf. Norby also earned entry into another elite all-star event, the Patriot All-America in late December at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Ariz.

Norby played in 10 tournaments during the 2020-21 season, posting seven top-five and nine top-10 finishes (including his fifth career win, in the Lion Invitational in Trophy Club, Texas) and he was 14th in the other tournament, an otherwise all-Division I event outside of the OC players who competed.

He made the All-Lone Star Conference first-team list for a second straight season, was the top-ranked player in the South Central Region by Golfstat.com and was a three-time LSC player of the week.

Brictson, a junior from Merida, Mexico, earned All-Region honors for a second straight season and joined Johnston and Norby on an elite list as the only three multiple All-Region honorees in program history. Brictson also is a three-time all-conference first-team honoree (2019 in the Heartland Conference and the past two years in the LSC).

During the 2020-21 season, Brictson recorded two tournament wins and three other top-10 finishes. A one-time LSC player of the week this season, Brictson posted a scoring average of 72.63 over 24 rounds. He was one of only two players on the All-LSC list to also be named to the conference's All-Academic team, an honor he received for a second straight year.

Pulcini, a freshman from Rio Cuarto, Argentina, posted six top-10 finishes this season for the Eagles, including a third-place showing at The Hrnciar at The Territory Golf and Country Club in Duncan, Okla., in October. He posted a scoring average of 72.68 over 28 rounds.

He was named to the All-LSC first-team list and as the conference's freshman of the year, becoming the first OC player to win a freshman-of-the-year honor since 2016, when Valenzuela was recognized by the Heartland Conference.
