Despite tournament win, Eagles drop slightly in Division II coaches’ poll

NORMAN, Okla. (March 26, 2021) – Despite a tournament win and two runner-up finishes the last three weeks, Oklahoma Christian's men's golf team dropped slightly in the Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll, released Friday.

OC slid a spot into a tie for 19th with Clayton State (Ga.). Since the previous poll was released, the Eagles finished second in the Las Vegas Desert Classic, won the Broncho Invitational in Edmond and took second (behind a junior-college power) in Texas A&M-Commerce's Lion Invitational.

Since October, the Eagles have won three tournaments and have finished behind only one NCAA Division II team (Central Missouri in the Las Vegas tournament) in any event. OC owns two head-to-head wins over the current No. 7 team, Arkansas Tech, as well as head-to-head wins over No. 14 Colorado State-Pueblo and No. 15 Washburn (Kan.). The Eagles also have split with No. 9 Central Missouri and No. 13 Indianapolis (Ind.).

The current top 10 in the poll included new No. 1 Lynn (Fla.), followed by West Florida, South Carolina-Aiken, Barry (Fla.), Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.), Georgia Southwestern State, Arkansas Tech, Saint Leo (Fla.), Central Missouri and Lee (Tenn.).

OC was the only Lone Star Conference team in the poll, although five other LSC teams received votes.

The Eagles won't compete again until April 5-6, when they're scheduled to be in Denton, Texas, to play in the Dallas Baptist Patriot Classic at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch. That will be OC's final regular-season tournament before the LSC Championship event, set for April 19-21 at Tierra Verde Golf Club in Arlington, Texas.
