TROPHY CLUB, Texas (March 22, 2021) – The bad news for No. 18-ranked Oklahoma Christian was the Eagles were in sixth place after one round in Texas A&M-Commerce's Lion Invitational. The good news was OC certainly remained in the mix for yet another tournament title.
OC was one of eight teams within seven shots of the lead in a tightly bunched field at Trophy Club Country Club entering Tuesday's final round. The tournament, initially scheduled for 54 holes, was shortened to two rounds after thunderstorms resulted in a three-hour delay on Monday.
OC, with a team score of 291, trailed the leader, Texas A&M International, by four shots. At 287, TAMIU was trailed by Midwestern State (Texas) at 288, Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College at 289, Cameron and No. 15 Dallas Baptist (Texas) at 290, OC, Texas A&M-Commerce at 293 and Texas-Tyler at 294.
From top to bottom, the 16-team field was separated by only 21 shots.
While no OC players were in the top 10, three were tied for 11th in the 80-man field after posting an even-par 72 on the 7,021-yard course – senior
Trevor Norby of Carlsbad, Calif.; freshman
Mateo Pulcini of Rio Cuarto, Argentina; and junior
Andres Brictson of Merida, Mexico. They trailed the leader, Luke Palmowski of Rogers State, by five shots.
The Eagles mostly avoided big scores on holes, with only one double bogey between them, against 13 birdies.
The final round will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
