OKLAHOMA CITY (March 10, 2021) – For a few minutes in the second half on Wednesday, Oklahoma Christian looked to be on the verge of coming back from a two-goal deficit against West Texas A&M at the Eagle Soccer Field.
But West Texas A&M's Hannah Kelley-Lusk ended OC's hopes, scoring two goals 25 seconds apart in the 69th minute to complete a hat trick as the Buffaloes downed the Eagles 4-1.
West Texas A&M (3-2, 3-1 Lone Star Conference), playing into a strong south wind in the first half, quickly jumped ahead 2-0 on goals by Kelley-Lusk in the ninth minute and Asha James (on which Kelley-Lusk assisted) in the 12th minute.
But OC (0-5, 0-3 Lone Star Conference) also had good scoring chances and nearly halved its deficit in the 15th minute, when
Ellise Foreman hit the crossbar with a shot and
Carson Hazel fired just wide left after collecting the rebound.
The Eagles did pull within 2-1 in the 56th minute, when
Brianna Concienne found
Natalie Thomas in the penalty box and Thomas beat West Texas A&M goalkeeper Daniela Estrada from about 12 yards out.
But less than 13 minutes later, Kelley-Lusk scored, then scored again quickly after the ensuing kickoff. The Buffaloes ended up outshooting OC 23-9.
OC goalkeeper
Gabby Goddard made eight saves, while Estrada had two for West Texas A&M.
The Eagles' next two games will be nonconference contests at Rogers State on Saturday and at home against Midwestern State (Texas) next Wednesday. OC then will visit Midwestern State for a game that will count in the LSC standings on March 20.
