OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 5, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian jumped on Southwestern Oklahoma State for five first-inning runs and held on at the end for an 8-5 win over the Bulldogs on Friday in the final game of the first weekend of the Edmond Regional Festival at Tom Heath Field.
No. 13-ranked OC (2-0) fell behind Southwestern (0-3) in the top of the first, but the Eagles roared back in the bottom of the inning.
Kylie Janzen and
Brie Dunckel pulled off a double steal, with Dunckel scoring to tie the game.
Whitney Walde and
Brianna Robinson each delivered an RBI single before freshman
Aaliyah Brown's two-run single made it 5-1.
Walde and Robinson again each hit an RBI single in the second, extending OC's lead to 7-1 and the Eagles added another run in the third.
The Bulldogs rallied with two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh, but OC sophomore
Kali Crandall recorded three straight strikeouts to end the latter threat and seal the win for the Eagles, picking up her first save of the softball season.
Lindsey Stoeckel (1-0) picked up the pitching win for OC, while Alisa Friesen (0-2) didn't make it out of the first inning in taking the loss for Southwestern.
OC's next games are scheduled for Friday at home against Southwest Baptist (Mo.) and Nebraska-Kearney in the second weekend of the Edmond Regional Festival.
