OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 21, 2021) – Playing their first softball games in 16 days, the Oklahoma Christian Eagles took a bit of time to rev up their offense on Sunday in the Edmond Regional Festival, but their pitching picked up right where it left off.
Kali Crandall pitched a complete game and
Lindsey Stoeckel homered in a 4-2 win over East Central at Tom Heath Field, and Stoeckel went 2-for-2 and pitched three shutout innings as the Eagles run-ruled Chadron State (Neb.) 12-0 in OC's second game, rolling up 13 hits in the process.
Against East Central, No. 12-ranked OC (4-0) jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, with
Brie Dunckel hitting a two-run single and
Kylie Janzen adding a run-scoring hit. In the fourth, Stoeckel homered over the left-field fence off East Central pitcher Paige Leschber (0-1) to make it 4-0.
Crandall (3-0) ran into a bit of trouble in the sixth and seventh, as East Central (3-1) scratched out a run in each inning to pull within 4-2. The Tigers had the potential tying run on base in the seventh, but Crandall struck out Gabriela Qui and coaxed a groundout by Hannah Hurtz to end the game.
OC made quick work of Chadron State (0-2), which beat the Eagles in last year's Edmond Regional Festival. As a team, OC hit for the cycle in the first inning while scoring five runs.
Katelyn Dunckel and Stoeckel had run-scoring triples, freshman
Kylie Janzen hit her first collegiate home run,
Tara Stewart doubled and
Whitney Walde contributed a run-scoring single.
The Eagles piled on seven more runs in the third inning against Chadron State starter Tia Kohl (0-1), with
Karrah Dean hitting a two-run homer,
Aaliyah Brown a two-run single,
Daelyn Denny an RBI double,
Katelyn Dunckel a run-scoring triple and
Brianna Robinson an RBI single.
Stoeckel (1-0) allowed only two hits in three innings of work before
Bailey Turner and
Lauren King each contributed an inning of shutout relief.
OC will host Fort Hays State (Kan.) and Pittsburg State (Kan.) on Monday.
