Texas Woman’s downs Eagles in home opener

OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 24, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian started well but Texas Woman's slowly turned the tide and pulled away for a 4-0 win over the Eagles on Wednesday at the Eagle Soccer Field.

Playing its first game since Feb. 2 and its first at home in the spring-semester season, OC (0-2, 0-1 Lone Star Conference) had the first scoring opportunity, but Gracie Cornelius' shot sailed over the crossbar.

Texas Woman's (1-0, 1-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute as Haley Ward scored on an unassisted shot from the edge of the 18-yard box. OC switched goalkeepers at halftime, with Ashlee Jackson replacing Gabby Goddard, and the Pioneers greeted Jackson with a goal by Keely Chapman in the opening minute of the second half, on which Ward assisted.

Chapman assisted on a second goal by Ward, in the 65th minute, and Texas Woman's finished the scoring in the 69th minute with an unassisted goal by Maddy Harper. The Pioneers outshot OC 16-4 and had seven corner kicks to none for the Eagles.

Goddard made one save while Jackson had three for OC. Bailey Heffernon played the first 76 minutes in goal for the Pioneers and had two saves before Sarah Campbell finished off the shutout.

Jenna White took three of OC's four shots.

OC will visit LSC rival Texas A&M-Commerce next Wednesday.
