OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 4, 2021) -- Oklahoma Christian coach
Stephanie Findley has said it often – to win in basketball, you've got to make shots, and unfortunately for the Lady Eagles, they didn't have much luck in that area on Saturday afternoon against Texas Woman's.
OC connected on just 30.4 percent (17 of 56) of its shots while Texas Woman's made 50.9 percent (27 of 53) from the field, numbers that results in a 69-50 win for Texas Woman's in a nonconference game in the Eagles' Nest.
Texas Woman's (6-2), ninth in the Division II Sports Information Directors Association South Central Region rankings, picked up 21 points from Sadie Moyer, who went 5 of 7 from 3-point range. Freshman point guard
Kate Bradley went 5 of 11 from behind the arc and scored 19 points to lead OC (0-5).
"I'm not disappointed in our defense and we did get after loose balls pretty good," Findley said. "But we let them outrebound us (36-31). We just are not making shots and we can't get our offense going. I've got to figure that out."
Bradley kept OC in the game early. Texas Woman's led 21-9 at the end of the first quarter before Bradley scored 10 points during an 11-3 run by the Lady Eagles. She hit consecutive 3-pointers to pull OC within 24-20 with 7:19 left in the second quarter.
The Pioneers answered with a 14-4 run to go ahead 38-25 at halftime and they steadily built their lead to 22 points, at 57-35 with 21.8 seconds left in the third quarter. A 3-pointer by
Kendra Levings got OC within 60-48 with 6:22 left, but the Lady Eagles scored only two points the rest of the way.
"We let their pressure speed us up and we threw passes that weren't there that got tipped," Findley said. "We were rushing our shots. Everybody was just trying to get a shot off instead of looking for a good shot."
Brooklin Bain added 11 points for OC, while
Kendall Blackburn scored eight points on 4-of-4 shooting.
OC will host nearby rival Oklahoma Baptist in another nonconference game on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
