OC alum Parmer to continue pro hoops career in Portugal

OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 23, 2021) – Former Oklahoma Christian basketball standout Dedrian Parmer Jr. signed Thursday to play for Basket Almada Clube, a professional team in Portugal.

Parmer, a 6-foot-6 forward from Oklahoma City, will be entering his second season of pro hoops. He spent the 2020-21 season with Gzira Athletic in the MBA Malta League, which competes in that Mediterranean nation.

With Griza Athletic, Parmer averaged 16.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 58 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 75 percent from the free-throw line.

His new club is located in Setubal, Portugal, and competes in that nation's 2.Divisao, or Second Division. Parmer, who announced his signing on Twitter, said he'll be leaving Oklahoma City next week to travel to Portugal.

"I am grateful for this opportunity," Parmer said. "It's my second year playing overseas and I am looking to have a breakout year this upcoming year. The team has been recruiting me for a couple months and I finally decided to sign with them after meeting with the president and coaches.

"I want to thank everyone at OC for all the love and support. I am truly so glad to be a part of the Eagle family!"

Parmer spent only his senior season at OC, but made a major mark on the program. He earned All-Lone Star Conference second-team honors in 2019-20, leading the Eagles in scoring at 15.8 points per game and also averaging 6.9 rebounds per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the field. He ranked 13th, eighth and ninth in the LSC, respectively, in those categories.

He also made an impact on the LSC record book, going 11 for 11 from the field on Nov. 23 in a win over Texas A&M International, which research indicated was the third-best single-game shooting performance in the league's history.

Parmer spent his first three collegiate seasons at USAO in Chickasha, making the NAIA All-America third-team list as a junior in 2018-19, averaging 15.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game and recording nine double-doubles for team that made the NAIA quarterfinals. That season, he ranked second in NAIA Division I in field-goal percentage (69.4). He scored 1,025 points during his time with the Drovers.

Other current or former OC men's players still active in the international pro ranks include Elijah Strickland in Germany, Sebastian Davet in Switzerland, Jon Jonsson in Sweden, Will Lienhard in Georgia and Miroslav Jaksic in Spain.
