OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 27, 2021) – The turnover bug bit Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
The Lady Eagles had four players post double-figure scoring totals, but OC also turned the basketball over 26 times and it proved costly in an 87-69 loss in a nonconference game in the Eagles' Nest.
OC (0-3) picked up 17 points and four assists from freshman point guard
Kate Bradley – who went 5 of 9 from 3-point range – as well as a double-double (11 points, 14 rebounds, five assists) from forward
Brooklin Bain. The Lady Eagles led 38-30 with 3:24 left in the first half before Southeastern (2-4) closed the half on an 8-0 run.
The Savage Storm – playing at OC for the first time in nine seasons – opened the second half with a 22-8 run to build a 60-46 lead and weren't called for a foul in the third quarter. They then went on a 12-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters and saw their lead peak at 24 points despite the hot shooting of Bradley, who hit four of her 3-pointers after halftime.
Southeastern shot 53 percent (35 of 66) from the field for the game. Briley Moon led the Savage Storm with 22 points and seven assists while Kamryn Cantwell had 19 points and Jordan Benson had 13. Southeastern only committed nine turnovers.
Macy Smith came off the bench to score 13 points for OC and
Kendall Blackburn added 11 points and eight rebounds. OC lost despite a dominating 40-21 edge in rebounding over Southeastern.
OC will host Lone Star Conference rival Midwestern State (Texas) in a mandated nonconference game on Thursday.
