ALVA, Okla. (Nov. 23, 2021) -- Northwestern Oklahoma State made eight 3-pointers in the first half to build a double-digit lead, then held off a fourth-quarter rally by Oklahoma Christian to win 76-62 over the Lady Eagles at Percefull Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.
Northwestern (3-2), coached by former OC All-America basketball player Tasha (Turney) Diesselhorst, never trailed against OC (0-2). The Rangers led 22-12 after the first quarter and 39-30 at halftime. Their lead peaked at 53-36 with 2:59 left in the third quarter on a free throw by Andi Pearce, who scored 24 points.
From there, the Lady Eagles began chipping away, pulling within 56-44 by the end of the quarter. OC cut the margin to six points three times in the fourth quarter, the last time at 61-55 with 5:11 left on a basket by
Brooklin Bain.
But Pierce answered with a 3-pointer, then two free throws, to rebuild Northwestern's lead to double digits. The Rangers made 11 of 14 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to hold off OC.
Bain just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Kate Bradley had 13 points and four assists while
Macy Smith scored 11 points and blocked two shots for OC.
Bailey Brown scored 21 points in just 26 minutes for Northwestern, with Carly Craig adding 14 and Kinsey Neiderer 12. Only six Northwestern players scored.
OC will host another Great American Conference team, Southeastern Oklahoma State, on Saturday at 2 p.m.
