NORMAN, Okla. (Oct. 8, 2021) – On the strength of wins in its first two tournaments of the men's golf season, Oklahoma Christian jumped three spots to No. 11 in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll, released Friday.
OC was 13th in the preseason poll before falling into a tie for 14th in the most recent poll, despite not having yet played to that point. Since then, the Eagles have won the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational at Shangri-La Golf Club in Monkey Island and the NCAA Division II South Central-West Regional Preview at Pueblo Country Club in Pueblo, Colo.
With 234 points in the voting by 19 NCAA Division II coaches, the Eagles were only eight points behind No. 10 Indianapolis (Ind.) in the poll.
OC was the highest-ranked of three Lone Star Conference teams in the poll, ahead of No. 18 Texas A&M-Commerce and No. 19 Midwestern State (Texas). No other South Central Region or West Region teams were in the top 25.
Defending national champion Arkansas Tech (a team OC beat twice head-to-head last season) remained at No. 1 with 12 first-place votes and 447 points, followed by Barry (Fla.) with six first-place votes and 444 points. Lynn (Fla.) was third with 282 points, with West Florida (358 points) and Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) with 335 points rounding out the top 5.
