Armijo latest OC golfer to earn LSC weekly honor

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 7, 2021) – For the second time in as many weeks, an Oklahoma Christian golfer has been named as the Lone Star Conference's men's player of the week, with Alejandro Armijo receiving that recognition on Thursday.

Armijo, a junior from Rio Rancho, N.M., recorded his first win at the NCAA Division II level, firing a bogey-free 5-under-par 66 on Tuesday in the final round to secure medalist honors in the Division II South Central-West Regional Preview at Pueblo Country Club (par 71, 6,522 yards) in Pueblo, Colo.

Armijo shot 68-66—134 to finish at 8-under, draining an 18-foot par putt on No. 18 to preserve his one-shot win after starting the day in a tie for eighth in the 100-man field. Over the course of the 36-hole tournament, he had nine birdies and an eagle against only three bogeys.

In becoming the 24th OC player to record at least one tournament win, Armijo helped the 14th-ranked Eagles to an eight-shot win in the 19-team field. It was the program's 75th all-time win and its second in as many weeks, with the first coming in the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational. After that tournament, Armijo's teammate, Mateo Pulcini, was named as the LSC player of the week.

The LSC player-of-the-week honors were the first for both Armijo and Pulcini.

OC will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday in the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate, hosted by Arkansas State at RidgePointe Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark.
