OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 10, 2021) – Recording his first tournament win a week after a disappointing finish earned Oklahoma Christian golfer
Alejandro Armijo recognition Sunday as the Eagle of the Week.
Armijo, a junior from Rio Rancho, N.M., recorded his first win at the NCAA Division II level on Monday and Tuesday in the Division II South Central-West Regional Preview at Pueblo Country Club in Pueblo, Colo. He posted a 3-under-par 68 on the opening day before firing a bogey-free 66 in the final round to finish at 8-under 134, atop a 100-man field.
A week after recording a double bogey on his final hole at Shangri-La Golf Club in Monkey Island, which cost him a share of the win in the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational, Armijo drained a clutch 18-foot par putt on No. 18 on Tuesday to preserve his one-shot win in Colorado.
In becoming the 24th OC player to record at least one tournament win, Armijo helped the 14th-ranked Eagles to an eight-shot win in the 19-team field. It was the program's 75th all-time win.
Others considered for Eagle of the Week this week included:
--
Kenya Bailey, women's cross country, who posted her third top-two individual finish of the season, placing second in the Tiger Open, hosted by Fort Hays State (Kan.), with a career-best time of 17:47.09 over 5,000 meters;
