TYLER, Texas (Oct. 1, 2021) – Unbeaten Texas-Tyler extended its regular-season winning streak to 21 matches, downing a shorthanded Oklahoma Christian volleyball team 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-11) on Friday night inside the Louise Herrington Patriot Center.
No. 19 Texas-Tyler (9-0, 5-0 Lone Star Conference) hit .347 and never gave OC (5-8, 1-4) any chance to gain traction. OC played without its top three setters and a handful of other key players who are nursing injuries.
Morgan Demuth led OC with nine kills while
Kelsie Schiefelbein had six.
Brylie Berryman had 14 digs for the Eagles, while
Kyla Chavez – a defensive specialist thrust into the setter role – had 18 assists.
Christina Escamilla led the Patriots with 15 kills, while Mikayla Ware added 13 kills and 10 digs. Texas-Tyler seized control of the first set with a 10-3 run that put the Patriots up 16-6, and went on a 7-0 run midway through the second set to take a 17-10 lead. The Patriots jumped to an 8-0 lead in the third set.
OC will play at LSC opponent Texas A&M-Commerce at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
