COMMERCE, Texas (Oct. 2, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian closed a two-day road trip to northeast Texas with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-8) loss to Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday afternoon at The Field House.
OC (5-9, 1-5 Lone Star Conference) again played without its top three setters. Junior
Kyla Chavez, a defensive specialist who has been holding the line for the Eagles in recent matches as a setter, had 16 assists for the Eagles. The only other OC player to reach double figures in any category was
Brylie Berryman, with 11 digs.
Anna Strother's four kills led OC's attack.
It was the second, and possibly final, all-time meeting between OC and TAMUC (4-6, 3-3), which announced plans last week to leave the LSC at the end of the 2021-22 academic year and move into the NCAA Division I Southland Conference. The Lions received 15 kills from Maddy Rashford, 29 assists by Celeste Vela and 14 digs from Essence Allen.
The Eagles will play three home matches next week – on Tuesday against nonconference foe Northwestern Oklahoma State and against LSC opponents Texas-Permian Basin and Western New Mexico on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
