OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 17, 2020) – Oklahoma Christian's new-look bowling schedule was announced Monday, with both the men's and women's programs now set to begin their seasons in late January.
In July, the U.S. Bowling Congress announced the season that normally starts in September or October would be postponed until January and that collegiate club bowling would be conducted as a second-semester sport, due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
OC's teams now are scheduled to open their seasons on the weekend of Jan. 23-24 in the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit I and II tournaments, to be played in Dallas and Plano, Texas, respectively.
On the weekend of Feb. 6-7, the Eagles will be in Wichita, Kan., for the Mid-States Championships. The women's team is scheduled to play in the Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis from Feb. 19-21, and OC coach
James Hayes is hopeful the men's squad also will receive a berth in that tournament.
The SWIBC III and IV tournaments will be held March 27-28 at Firelake Bowl in Shawnee, which is where the SWIBC Championships usually are held. The SWIBC V and VI events and the SWIBC Championships won't be played in 2021.
The Sectional Qualifiers for the Intercollegiate Team and Singles Championships will be held at four sites – including Dallas, where OC's teams would be most likely to end up – from April 16-18. Should OC bowlers or teams qualify for the ISC or ITC, those events will be held the week of May 3-8 in Addison, Ill.
