OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 14, 2020) –
Mitchell Whitehead, who has worked with the West Texas A&M club bowling program the last three years, has joined the Oklahoma Christian athletic staff as an assistant bowling coach and trainer, OC head coach
James Hayes said Friday.
Whitehead, from Sachse, Texas, bowled for West Texas A&M – which competes against OC in the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit – from 2013 to 2017, posting two top-five tournament finishes. As a senior, he posted a scoring average of 192.99 over 72 games.
He earned a bachelor of science degree in athletic training in 2017 and a master's degree in sports management in 2020, both from West Texas A&M. He's also a certified athletic trainer (ATC).
As he worked on his master's degree, he served as West Texas A&M's assistant coach as well as a facility intern, a position in which he helped manage numerous club sports at the university in Canyon, Texas.
At OC, he'll join a training staff that already includes
Curtis McAuliff,
Sydney Ringer,
Michelle Krause and
Sydney Postier.
"We are excited to have Mitchell joining our program both as the assistant coach but also as an athletic trainer," Hayes said. "Mitchell has proven himself as a very good recruiter, bringing in more than 30 athletes to WT during his three years. Mitchell will bring a lot of energy to the program and I am excited to see the impact it will have going forward."
