DUNCAN, Okla. (June 23, 2020) – One Oklahoma Christian player leapt into the top 10 and another made the cut during the second round of the Oklahoma Golf Association Stroke Play Championship on Tuesday at The Territory Golf and Country Club.
Both
Trevor Norby and
Alex Motes took advantage of prime scoring conditions on a course with which they're quite familiar, as OC won a team title and Norby won an individual crown last October in the Jerry Hrnciar Invitational.
Norby – a senior from Carlsbad, Calif., who was a NCAA Division II All-America first-team pick after the 2019-20 season – followed his first-round 72 with a 4-under-par 68 and will enter Wednesday's final round tied for ninth at 140 (4-under). He played his final nine holes Tuesday at 3-under and recorded six birdies overall.
Motes, a junior from Sulphur Springs, Texas, also easily made the cut to the top 30 players in the 98-man field, shooting a 69 that included five birdies. He was tied for 16th at 142 (2-under), three shots above the cut line.
Texas Tech signee James Roller of Jenks led the tournament at 132, one shot ahead of Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen at 133.
Three other OC players didn't make the cut. Returning freshman
Said Powers shot a 73 and finished at 152 (8-over), incoming freshman Joey Lewis shot a 73 to close at 154 (10-over) and returning freshman
Ransen Turner posted a 76 and finished at 157 (13-over).
