DUNCAN, Okla. (June 22, 2020) – Oklahoma Christian's
Trevor Norby and
Alex Motes put themselves in good position to make the cut with solid opening rounds in the Oklahoma Golf Association's Stroke Play Championship on Monday at The Territory Golf and Country Club.
Norby, a senior from Carlsbad, Calif., posted an even-par 72 and was tied for 23rd in the 98-man field that includes many of Oklahoma's top amateur players. Motes, a junior from Sulphur Springs, Texas, was one shot back at 73, in a tie for 27th.
The top 30 players, including ties, after Tuesday's second round will make the cut for the final round on Wednesday. Texas Tech signee James Roller of Jenks and Oklahoma State golfer Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen were tied for the lead at 5-under 67.
Norby is a two-time NCAA Division II All-America, earning first-team honors this past season, while Motes earned National Junior College Athletic Association All-America first-team recognition as a freshman in 2017-18 at Midland (Texas).
Other OC golfers playing in the OGA tournament this week include returning freshman
Said Powers of Edmond (tied for 62nd at 79) along with returning freshman
Ransen Turner and incoming freshman Joey Lewis, who each shot an 81 and were tied for 71st.
