RICHARDSON, Texas (May 12, 2020) – The Lone Star Conference named Andres Brictson, Oklahoma Christian's latest All-America athlete, to its 2019-20 Academic All-Conference team for men's golf on Tuesday.
To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.3 grade-point average and be at least a sophomore both athletically and academically. The team is selected by sports information directors from the league's member schools, who consider both athletic and academic achievement while voting.
Brictson, a junior Finance major from Merida, Mexico, received honorable mention last month on the Golf Coaches Association of America's NCAA Division II All-America list after a season in which he recorded his third collegiate win (in the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas) and posted four top-10 finishes in the Eagles' seven tournaments.
He posted a 72.68 scoring average over 19 rounds as OC won three tournaments and went 80-4-1 against Division II competition.
In 2018-19, Brictson won the Heartland Conference Championship individual title and made the All-Heartland Conference first-team list. Last summer, he qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship, becoming only the second active OC player ever to do so.
He made the Heartland Conference's Honor Roll four times in as many semesters before OC's move into the LSC for the 2019-20 academic year. In 2018-19, he also earned the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
Joining him on the LSC Academic All-Conference team were Devin Whipple of Cameron, Justin Kim of Texas A&M International, Eemeli Jarvinen of West Texas A&M and Zach Burkholder of Lubbock Christian (Texas), who was named as the league's academic player of the year.
