DALLAS (March 12, 2020) – For the second time in as many years, Oklahoma Christian's teams will compete in collegiate bowling's postseason when they appear in sectional tournaments as part of the Intercollegiate Singles Championship and Intercollegiate Team Championship.
All the sectionals will be held Friday through Sunday at USA Bowl in Dallas, with the top finishers to advance to the ISC and ITC national events in Wyoming, Mich., from April 15-18.
In Friday's ISC sectional, 140 women and 177 men will bowl six individual games, vying for just a handful of spots in the national event.
OC women's bowlers set to compete include junior
Abbey Parks, sophomore
Taylore Ryan and freshmen
Athena Walker,
Claire McDermott,
Jade Garcia and
Morgan Pelkie. Pelkie has the team's top scoring average at 185.57, with three top-five finishes this season. Parks (180.62) and Ryan (180.06) are close behind.
For OC's men, those competing will be sophomores
Jacob Hastings,
Jonathan Beyer,
Josh Imhoff, Sam Buter and
Leotis Johnson Jr. and freshmen Michael Gredler and
Mitchell Leonard. Imhoff (198.84) and Butler (198.33) have the Eagles' highest season scoring averages. Both have recorded two top-five event finishes this season.
The ITC sectional will be held Saturday and Sunday. Teams will roll 32 Baker games each day, in sets of four games at a time. The top four men's and women's teams will move on to the national tournament.
"Both teams will need to execute at a very high level this weekend if they want to move on past sectionals," OC coach
James Hayes said. "We have the ability and at times have really shown that throughout the season. If we can spare at a very high percentage, then I like our chances. It should be a fun weekend in Dallas."
Both of OC's bowling teams also made the sectional tournaments last season.
