PLANO, Texas (Jan. 12, 2020) – Oklahoma Christian completed perhaps the most successful weekend in the program's two-season history, winning its second tournament in as many days, the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit VI event on Sunday at Plano Super Bowl.
The Eagles – who won the team title Saturday in the SWIBC V tournament at USA Bowl in Dallas – also picked up their first individual tournament champion of the 2019-20 season, as sophomore
Josh Imhoff of Cabot, Ark., took top honors in the 120-man field in SWIBC VI. It was the third career individual title and the sixth career top-five finish for Imhoff.
The tournament sweep was "a nice first for the program," OC coach
James Hayes said. "We bowled great all weekend long. The coaches are super proud of how we competed in both tournaments."
Indeed. In one weekend, OC doubled the program's total of all-time tournament wins to four. In addition to SWIBC V on Saturday, the Eagles won the SWIBC V tournament and SWIBC Championships in 2019.
In seven team games Sunday, OC averaged almost 200 pins per person per game, finishing with a score of 6,993, 123 pins ahead of Newman (Kan.) at 6,870. West Texas A&M placed third in the 15-team field at 6,858.
Individually, Imhoff rolled six games of 200 or higher, including a 257 in game six, a 233 in game two and a 236 in game three. He finished 24 pins ahead of the runner-up, Aaron Loera of Texas-San Antonio. Imhoff's previous wins came last season in the SWIBC I and V tournaments.
OC's
Sam Butler, who finished as the SWIBC V runner-up on Saturday, also made the all-tournament team in SWIBC VI, placing fifth with a score of 1,446 pins. The sophomore from Texarkana, Texas, rolled five games of 200 or more, closing strong with a 238 in game six and a 221 in game seven. It was Butler's third career all-tournament honor.
Two other Eagles rolled all seven games. Freshman
Mitchell Leonard of St. Charles, Ill., placed 14th at 1,383, with games of 246 and 256, while sophomore
Jacob Hastings of McKinney, Texas, was 15th at 1,378, with a 246 in game three.
The Eagles' next tournament will be the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic, a Tier I event set for Saturday and Sunday at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill., near Chicago.
