MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. (Sept. 23, 2019) – With its starters producing seven rounds at par or under, Oklahoma Christian took the lead Monday after the first two rounds of the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational at Shangri-La Golf Club.
OC, the tournament's defending champion, posted a team score of 12-under-par 564 (after rounds of 279 and 285), which was good for a four-shot lead over Central Oklahoma. Those two squads were well ahead of third-place Washburn (Kan.) at 1-over.
The tournament, with 19 teams and 108 players, was suspended due to darkness with two players
still on the course. However, all seven OC players – five starters and two individuals – were able to complete their rounds, and they put on a show, with four Eagles in the top 10.
Sophomore Armando Armijo of Rio Rancho, N.M. (72-69), freshman
Mateo Pulcini of Rio Cuarto, Argentina (69-72) and freshman
Said Powers of Edmond (68-73) all were tied for sixth at 141 (3-under), with Powers playing as an individual.
Junior
Andres Brictson of Merida, Mexico, posted the lowest round of the day by any player, a 6-under 66 in the first round on the 6,840-yard course, then followed with a 76 and was tied for ninth at 142.
Another freshman,
Ransen Turner of Edmond, followed a first-round 73 with a 1-under 71 and was at even-par 144, tied for 19th. Another shot back was senior
Trevor Norby of Carlsbad, Calif., who shot 72-73 and was tied for 25th. Freshman
Walker LaRue of Whitehouse, Texas (74-77) was tied for 62nd at 151.
Southwestern Oklahoma State's Kason Cook was the individual leader at 7-under, with one hole remaining in his second round.
The final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
