Brictson becomes OC’s 1st Lone Star Conference player of the week

OC junior Andres Brictson is the university's first LSC player of the week in any sport.
OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 12, 2019) – Winning a playoff duel with the Lone Star Conference's returning player of the year resulted in Oklahoma Christian golfer Andres Brictson becoming the first OC athlete in any sport to be named as the LSC player of the week.

The league announced the award Thursday. Brictson, a junior from Merida, Mexico, sealed his third career win two days earlier in the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, which was the first tournament of the 2019-20 season for the Eagles.

Brictson shot 70-68-67—205 (8-under-par) during the three-round event on the par-71, 6,512-yard course. He had only one bogey over his final 39 holes and forced a playoff with consecutive birdies at No. 17 and No. 18, sinking a pressure 10-foot putt on the latter hole. He beat Jake Doggett of Midwestern State (Texas), last season's top LSC player, on the fourth hole of the playoff for medalist honors.

Brictson had 14 birdies in tournament, helping OC rally for the team title in the final round. The Eagles, ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II, beat runner-up No. 10 St. Mary's (Texas) by nine shots.

All three of Brictson's collegiate wins have come in 2019 – including in the Heartland Conference Championship in April at Slick Rock Golf Course in Horseshoe Bay, Texas – and he qualified for the prestigious U.S. Amateur Championship this past summer.

The player-of-the-week honor was the second of Brictson's career, as he also picked up the honor once as a sophomore when OC competed in the Heartland Conference.
