EDMOND, Okla. (Aug. 24, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian golfer
Trevor Norby shot an even-par 70 on Saturday in the final round of the Oklahoma Open at Oak Tree Country Club's East Course.
Norby, a rising senior from Carlsbad, Calif., tied for 22nd overall in the 152-man tournament, the highest finish by an active OC player since Sam Johnson placed 18th in 2015. Among amateurs who played in the Open, Norby finished second at 2-under 208, two shots behind Dustin Hasley, a rising junior at Oral Roberts.
Max McGreevy, a former Oklahoma standout who's spent time on what is now the Korn Ferry Tour, won at 13-under 197.
Norby started the round at 2-under and got to 4-under with birdies on the par-4 No. 3 and the par-5 No. 4 (birdieing that hole for the third straight round). A bogey on the par-3 No. 6 was offset by a birdie on the par-4 No. 11, but Norby bogeyed the par-5 No. 12 and the par-4 No. 15 to fall back to even par for the round and 2-under for the tournament.
He was the only player among the nine with OC ties who entered the tournament to make the cut and was the first to do so since Johnston in 2015.
The tournament is the first for Norby since May, when he played for the Eagles in the NCAA Division II South Central-West Super Regional in St. George, Utah. As a junior at OC, he won two tournaments – including the Broncho Invitational at Oak Tree East – and earned All-America third-team honors.
