Eagles ranked in Division II men’s golf preseason poll

Alejandro Armijo will join OC's golf team for the 2019-20 season.
NORMAN, Okla. (Aug. 23, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian now appears to have established itself as a traditional power in NCAA Division II men's golf, as evidenced by the preseason Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll released Friday.

Coach David Lynn's Eagles checked in at No. 15 in the poll, one of only two Lone Star Conference squads to make the top 25, along with No. 10 St. Mary's (Texas), which (like OC) is making the move into the LSC from the Heartland Conference.

In 2018-19, OC won the Heartland title with a dramatic final-day comeback, edging St. Mary's by one shot on a final-hole birdie by Trevor Norby. The Eagles won five tournaments and ended the season as the No. 1 team in the NCAA's South Central Region rankings, which are separate from the coaches' poll. OC finished eighth in the Division II South Central-West Super Regional in St. George, Utah.

Two starters from last season, Norby and Andres Brictson, return for the Eagles in 2019-20. Each won two tournaments last season, with Norby receiving All-America third-team honors and Brictson – the Heartland's individual champion – qualifying over the summer for the prestigious U.S. Amateur Championship.

Among the newcomers will be sophomore Alejandro Armijo, a transfer from Oregon Tech who earned NAIA All-Region honors last season, and junior Alex Motes, a former junior-college All-American at Midland (Texas).

OC will open its season Sept. 9-10 in the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational, hosted by West Texas A&M at La Paloma Golf Course in Amarillo, Texas.
