Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Clift reaches milestones, but Lady Eagles fall at St. Mary’s

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 16, 2019) – Like they did in their first meeting of the basketball season against St. Mary's (Texas), the Oklahoma Christian Lady Eagles came out sizzling on Saturday afternoon. Unlike the first time, St. Mary's eventually proved able to match OC's firepower.

OC led by 13 points in the second quarter, but the Rattlers caught the Lady Eagles before halftime and held off a couple of second-half rallies to win 94-78 at Bill Greehey Arena.

Each team had a high-scoring superstar. OC's Addy Clift scored 38 points – her 10th 30-point game this season – while Arysia Porter set a St. Mary's single-game scoring record of 38 points to go with 11 rebounds and five assists.

Clift went 6 of 11 from 3-point range, increasing her career total of made 3-pointers to 300 – tops in Heartland Conference history – and she broke another Heartland record by increasing her season point total to 658. Satoria Bell of St. Mary's set the former record of 656 during the 2011-12 season.

With a 3-pointer with 6:34 left in the second quarter, Clift also surpassed the 2,000-point threshold for her career, making her only the fifth OC player – and the first in Heartland history – to do so.

"I'm so proud of Addy bouncing back today. She's been struggling a little lately with her 3-point shot but got it going early today," OC coach Stephanie Findley said. "We started off hot and then went cold and they started cold and then got hot. That's the way it goes some days. Arysia Porter broke out today after struggling with an injury all season and we just couldn't do anything to slow her down."

OC (12-12, 5-6 Heartland) blitzed St. Mary's (16-7, 6-5) on Jan. 19, jumping to a 44-9 lead en route to a 104-53 win. The Lady Eagles started fast again and led 22-9 near the end of the first quarter thanks in good part to four early 3-pointers by Clift.

Clift's 3-pointer at the 6:34 mark of the second put OC ahead 29-18, but a 17-2 run by St. Mary's put the Rattlers ahead and they led 37-35 at halftime.

Two free throws by Clift with 7:47 left in the third quarter gave OC its final lead at 41-40. Alexia Torres, Kaitlin Walla and Porter each hit a 3-pointer during a 13-0 run that put St. Mary's in control. The Rattlers led 61-46 on a layup by Porter with 2:45 left in the third quarter.

OC made a final push, pulling within 77-72 with 4:45 left on a jumper by Katie Mayo, but the Rattlers again extended their lead down the stretch. Soteria Banks had 16 points for St. Mary's, while Walla had 13 and Torres 12.

Mayo had 12 points and nine rebounds for OC, which shot 37.5 percent from the field compared to 50 percent for St. Mary's. Megan Shelton scored nine points and Maddison Collyer had seven points and six assists for the Lady Eagles.

OC will visit Lubbock Christian (Texas) – which clinched the Heartland regular-season title on Saturday – next Saturday afternoon before returning home to close the regular season with home games against Arkansas-Fort Smith on Feb. 28 and Rogers State on March 2.
