NORMAN, Okla. (Feb. 15, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian stayed at No. 9 in the first Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll of the spring men's golf season, which was released Friday.

OC opened the spring with its third win of the 2018-19 campaign, taking the Fujikura Invitational, hosted by California State-San Marcos at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista, Calif. Among the teams the Eagles beat in that event were current No. 7-ranked Chico State (Calif.) and the host team, which entered the poll at No. 19.

The No. 9 ranking remains the highest ever achieved by an OC athletic team in the NCAA Division II era, which began with the 2012-13 academic year.

During the fall season, the Eagles won the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational at Shangri-La Golf Club in Monkey Island in September and The Territory Classic at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan. OC also finished fifth at the loaded South Central-West Regional Preview at The Ledges Golf Club in St. George, Utah, during the fall.

Among South Central Region teams, OC had the highest ranking, one spot ahead of Heartland Conference rival St. Mary's (Texas). No. 18 Midwestern State (Texas) and No. 25 Dixie State (Utah) were the only other South Central Region teams in the poll released Friday.

In April, the top 10 South Central teams in the official NCAA rankings – which differ from the coaches' poll – will join the top 10 West Region teams in the Super Regional tournament at The Ledges. The top four teams from that tournament will advance to the NCAA Championships at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, W.Va.

The top 10 in the coaches' poll consisted of Barry (Fla.), Lynn (Fla.), West Florida, Florida Tech, Florida Southern, Western Washington, Chico State, Saint Leo (Fla.), OC and St. Mary's. The Eagles have a 5-2 head-to-head record against top-10 foes – 1-0 vs. Western Washington, 1-1 vs. Chico State and 3-1 vs. St. Mary's.

OC's next event will be the St. Mary's Invitational, set for Feb. 25-26 at The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio.
