PORTALES, N.M. (Oct. 31, 2019) –
Denise Bennett put Oklahoma Christian ahead early in the second half and
Corina Marin added a goal, but Eastern New Mexico rallied for a 5-2 win over the Eagles on Thursday night at Greyhound Stadium.
Bennett, a sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, scored her second goal of the soccer season off an assist from
Carson Hazel in the 50th minute to break a scoreless deadlock and put OC (2-13, 2-8 Lone Star Conference) ahead, but the Eagles' lead proved short-lived.
Brianna Remedios assisted on a goal by Lauren Descamp in the 56th minute, allowing ENMU (6-7-1, 3-7) to tie the game, and the Greyhounds went ahead 2-1 in the 64th minute when Desiree Morgas converted a penalty kick. Seven minutes later, Jaci Sievers scored for the Greyhounds (with Morgas recording the first of her two assists) to make it 3-1 and Angie Gonzalez put ENMU up 4-1 in the 87th minute.
Marin, a junior from Hickory Creek, Texas, pulled OC within 4-2 in the 88th minute before Caitlyn Schmidt ended the scoring in the 89th minute for the Greyhounds. The goal was Marin's first since scoring against Newman (Kan.) on Oct. 26, 2017, and the fourth of her OC career.
OC goalkeeper
Gabby Goddard made six saves, while her Eastern New Mexico counterpart, Whitney Dockweiler, had eight. The Greyhounds outshot OC 21-14.
OC will play its final road game of the season Saturday at West Texas A&M before returning home next week for home games Thursday against Texas-Tyler and Saturday against Texas A&M-Commerce.
