FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 13, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian posted its best team game of the season and briefly led Sunday before settling for a third-place finish at the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit II tournament at Cityview Lanes.
OC posted a team score of 6,288, finishing behind only Wichita State at 7,053 and Newman (Kan.) at 6,664. The Eagles were only two pins ahead of fourth-place Baker (Kan.)
The 14 teams in the tournament each played seven team games and the Eagles recorded their season-best score of 1,047 in the second game to move into the lead at 1,977, 49 pins ahead of Wichita State. But the Shockers regained the lead after game three, however, and Newman edged ahead of the Eagles after game four.
Sophomore
Josh Imhoff of Cabot, Ark., was OC's only player to roll all seven games and finished seventh among 142 players with a score of 1,360, a 194.3 average). Imhoff posted a 234 in game two and a 238 in game five.
Sophomore
Sam Butler of Texarkana, Texas, rolled six games to finish 42nd with a score of 1,083, a 180.5 average, with a top game of 196 in game six. One spot behind him was freshman
Mike Gredler of Killeen, Texas, with a score of 1,081 (a 180.2 average), while freshman
Mitchell Leonard of St. Charles, Ill., placed 52nd with a score of 1,040 over six games (a 173.3 average).
In addition to Imhoff, four other OC bowlers posted a game of 200 or better – Gredler (212 in game one), Leonard (211 in game two), sophomore
Jacob Hastings (200 in game one) and freshman
Javin French (200 in game two).
"The men bowled well," OC coach
James Hayes said. "We did struggle with transition late but were able to hold off a late charge by Baker University. Our spare game has to get better especially going into our first Tier I this weekend."
The Eagles will compete in the Tier I Mid-States Championships next Saturday and Sunday in Wichita, Kan.
