PLANO, Texas (Jan. 13, 2019) – Coming off the program's first tournament title, Oklahoma Christian wasn't able to sustain its momentum on Sunday, but the Eagles still managed a fourth-place finish in the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit (SWIBC) VI tournament at Plano Super Bowl.
Led by all-tournament finishes by
Josh Imhoff and
Andrew McCann, the Eagles posted a team score of 6,937 over seven individual games. Newman (Kan.) topped the 15-team field with a score of 7,202, followed by West Texas A&M (7,024) and Louisiana State (6,973).
OC earned top team honors Saturday at SWIBC V at AMF Richardson in Richardson, Texas, with Imhoff taking his second individual win of the season. Imhoff, a freshman from Cabot, Ark., continued his hot streak on Sunday, placing third among 126 players with a score of 1,481 and a high game of 259. Of the 12 games Imhoff bowled over the weekend, he scored 212 or better in 10 of them.
The Eagles had another all-tournament finisher in freshman
Andrew McCann of Lawton, who won a tiebreaker for fifth place with a score of 1,457. McCann's high game Sunday was a 226.
Only one other OC bowler rolled all seven games – freshman
Jacob Hastings of McKinney, Texas, was placed 17th at 1,400, with a high game of 227. Another OC freshman,
Sam Butler of Texarkana, Texas, rolled a 234 in game five on Sunday.
"The guys struggled a little bit today with execution," OC coach
James Hayes said. "We had a chance at the end to make the top three, but fell a little short."
John Baeten of Newman was the tournament's top individual with a score of 1,605.
OC will compete next Saturday and Sunday in the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic, a Tier I event at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill.
