OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 23, 2018) – Success at the regional and national levels long has been an expectation for Oklahoma Christian's men's golf program and the Eagles enjoyed both in 2018.
The spring season saw OC qualify for the NCAA Division II postseason and the fall season ended with the Eagles ranked in the top 10, which ranks as the No. 9 story in OC athletics for 2018.
OC capped the 2017-18 season with an appearance in the South Central-West Super Regional, qualifying as the No. 5 seed out of the South Central. Coach
David Lynn's Eagles finished seventh in the Super Regional at La Paloma Golf Course in Amarillo, Texas, in May, just one spot out of advancing to the Division II Championship.
It was the second time in three seasons of eligibility the Eagles qualified for the Division II postseason.
The positive momentum continued into the fall season. With five seniors, three other players who started multiple tournaments for OC and a transfer from a quality NCAA Division I program, the Eagles won twice, taking the team titles in the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational at Shangri-La Golf Club in Monkey Island and The Territory Classic at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan.
That success didn't go unnoticed nationally. In mid-November, the final Bushnell Golfweek Division II coaches' poll of the fall season had the Eagles at No. 9. It's only the second time in the program's Division II history the Eagles are ranked in the top 10 and the first time in six years.
The high ranking should put the Eagles in strong position for the spring 2019 season, which will begin in February.
