Dallas Baptist downs Lady Eagles in off-campus game

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 20, 2018) – As players warmed up on the Eagle Soccer Field on Saturday, game officials declared the soggy pitch unplayable for a game between Oklahoma Christian and Dallas Baptist (Texas), so OC coach Meagan Anderson scrambled and found an alternate site across town.

The teams headed to far southwest Oklahoma City to play at South Lakes Soccer Club, where Dallas Baptist posted a workmanlike 3-0 win over the Lady Eagles on a sunny afternoon that belied just how much rain had fallen in the area the past few weeks.

Dallas Baptist (9-5-2, 8-3-1 Heartland Conference) kept alive its slim hopes of possible sharing the league's regular-season title with the win over OC (1-14, 1-11).

The Patriots jumped ahead in the 10th minute on a goal by Ericca Everson, and OC lost starting goalkeeper Addison Milner in the 25th minute with an injury. But Milner's backup, freshman Josie Knox, played well, making seven saves in her 65 minutes, a few of the spectacular variety, to keep her team close.

Dallas Baptist finally broke through against Knox in the 71st minute, when a cross by Melanie Castelan set up a breakaway finish by Tiarra Hodges. The Patriots sealed the win in the 87th minute on a goal by Abigail Olmos.

The Patriots outshot OC 25-9. Denise Bennett led the Lady Eagles with three shots.

Milner made three saves in 25 minutes before leaving the game, while Dallas Baptist goalkeeper Grace Johnson had two stops, on shots by Brianna Concienne and Lauren Parker.

After the game – back on the OC campus – the Lady Eagles honored the teams four seniors after their final "home" game – Darrian Palacios, Parker, Michell Fuentes and Carley Cooley.

OC will finish its season with a pair of road games next week, at Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Thursday and Newman (Kan.) on Saturday.
