OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 18, 2018) – St. Edward's (Texas) extended its lead in the Heartland Conference race with a 7-0 win over Oklahoma Christian on Thursday night on a still-soggy Eagle Soccer Field.
Katherine Whitman and Sarah Gunderson each had two goals and Whitman added an assist for St. Edward's (9-3-2, 9-1-1 Heartland). The Hilltoppers scored five goals in the first 21 minutes and cruised after that, outshooting OC 31-4.
The Lady Eagles' best scoring chance came in the 27th minute, when
Brianna Concienne's strong shot from just outside the penalty box required a save by St. Edward's goalkeeper Annabel Sweeney, who leapt to fist the ball over the goal.
Sweeney made two saves in 60 minutes – also stopping a shot by
Darrian Palacios – before giving way to Evelyn Tiplady for the final 30 minutes. OC goalkeeper
Addison Milner had eight saves, raising her Heartland-leading total to 99.
OC (1-13, 1-10) will host Dallas Baptist (Texas) on Saturday in what will be Senior Day for the Lady Eagles. The program will honor seniors
Carley Cooley, Palacios,
Michell Fuentes and
Lauren Parker during a ceremony after the game.
