Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 3, 2016) – Northeastern State and Oklahoma Christian took a similar number of shots in their women's soccer game on Saturday. The difference for NSU was that its chances were of a higher quality, allowing them to convert.

Julia Mathis scored two goals for NSU to lead the RiverHawks to a 3-0 win over OC at the Eagle Soccer Field, spoiling the Lady Eagles' home opener.

NSU (1-0) outshot OC (1-1) by an 18-15 count, but the majority of OC's shots came from outside the penalty box, from 20 yards out or further. The Lady Eagles' best chance came on one of those shots, a low liner from Rubi Villegas Aguilar from about 25 yards out that NSU goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff went low to save.

Northeastern was aggressive throughout and took the lead in the 17th minute when Mathis scored from about 15 yards out off a cross from Melissa Giles. The RiverHawks extended that lead in the 53rd minute, with Mathis heading home a cross from Kelsey McIntyre.

Giles made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute, shooting into an open net from about eight yards out after Anastasia Robinson juked OC goalkeeper Carina Schanz and passed the ball to Giles.

The RiverHawks also had two shots hit the crossbar.

Schanz made seven saves for the Lady Eagles, while Woodruff had eight for Northeastern.

OC will return to action on Thursday, visiting Lubbock Christian (Texas) in the Heartland Conference opener for both teams. The Lady Eagles' next home game will be Nov. 13 against Southern Nazarene.
