Stanford, Parker inside, Clift outside lead Lady Eagles to rout of St. Edward’s

Freshman guard Addy Clift scored a career-high 24 points in the win over St. Edward's.
Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 25, 2016) – When McKenzie Stanford and Sarah Parker are rolling offensively, Oklahoma Christian can be tough to beat. Add in the outside shooting threat of Addy Clift and, well, the Lady Eagles can turn into a juggernaut.

Just ask St. Edward's (Texas), which caught the Lady Eagles on a night when all three of OC's top scorers played well. Stanford poured in 25 points, Parker had 18 and Clift added a career-high 24 to lead the Lady Eagles to a 94-67 win on Thursday in the Eagles' Nest.

OC (13-14, 10-7 Heartland Conference) shot a season-high 54.7 percent (35 of 64) from the field, an encouraging sign considering the Lady Eagles' first-ever Heartland tournament looms next week. The win moved OC into a tie for fourth place with St. Mary's (Texas) in the standings, a game behind third-place Arkansas-Fort Smith.

UAFS hosts Rogers State on Saturday, while St. Mary's will be at Oklahoma Panhandle State and OC will host Texas-Permian Basin in the Lady Eagles' regular-season finale.  UAFS still has a shot at second place, trailing Texas A&M International by a game.

The win gave OC a regular-season sweep of St. Edward's (10-15, 8-9). The Lady Eagles have beaten the Hilltoppers in three straight meetings, two of those on the road.

"It doesn't matter who it is," OC coach Stephanie Findley said. "This time of year, you're looking for any win you can get, and a big one is just that much more fun.

"I'm just so proud of the girls for playing with confidence and coming out and knocking down some shots. It kind of becomes contagious. One person hit, then another person hits and before you know it, everybody is making shots."

OC surged ahead of St. Edward's with a 14-2 run that spanned the first and second quarters and kept the pedal to the metal the rest of the way, never really allowing the Hilltoppers an opening to put together a rally.

"We are tough if we can get everybody going the same night," Findley said. "That hasn't happened very often this season, so I'm glad to see it coming out right now. Hopefully we can keep it out and make a run in the conference tournament."

St. Edward's hit its first five shots led 15-12 after  a basket by Lexi Fatheree with 2:16 left in the first quarter, but Clift closed the quarter with eight straight points and her 3-pointer with 39 seconds left gave the Lady Eagles the lead for good. OC led 25-20 after the quarter.

The Hilltoppers were within 37-33 midway through the second quarter, but a 10-4 run helped OC build a 45-37 halftime lead. St. Edward's remained within striking distance, trailing 50-45 with 7:21 left in the third quarter after a basket by Abby Hopper, but OC used a subsequent 17-2 run to blow the game open.

Jasmine Hinton, Clift and Parker hit consecutive 3-pointers during the spurt and Stanford's basket at the 3:24 mark put OC up 67-48. By the end of the third quarter, it was 77-54, as Clift nailed a 3-pointer from the corner at the buzzer, just 23 seconds after hitting a deep 3-pointer after Fatheree fell down while defending her.

The Lady Eagles pushed the lead to as many as 35 points in the fourth quarter.

Clift went 5-of-7 from 3-point range to lead a 9-of-18 effort from behind the arc for the Lady Eagles. Stanford went 11-of-19 from the field to go with four steals while Parker went 6-of-10 and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Khiana Clark led the Hilltoppers with 21 points, while Fatheree had 16 and Shakera Barnes had 14. St. Edward's suited up only 10 players.

Stanford increased her career scoring total to 1,154 points, moving into 23rd place in OC history, past former teammate Roz Hamilton, who had 1,134 points from 2009-14.
