Box Score CLAREMORE, Okla. (Oct. 29, 2016) – Oklahoma Christian beat Rogers State in every area but the scoreboard on Saturday afternoon in the Lady Eagles' soccer season finale.
OC outshot Rogers State 19-8 and held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks, but it was the Hillcats who scored the decisive goal in the 79th minute to leave Solider Field as 2-1 winners. The Lady Eagles ended the season at 4-12-2 overall and 2-10-2 in Heartland Conference play.
Rogers State (6-9-3, 2-9-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute, when Alexis Pryor's shot from the right wing eluded OC goalkeeper
Carina Schanz and went into the lower left corner of the goal.
But OC freshman
Jen Atherton equalized for the Lady Eagles in the 29th minute, knocking in a cross from the left wing by
Darrian Palacios. It was Atherton's second goal of the season.
Rogers State goalkeeper Taylor Stover had a strong game, making 10 saves to keep the Lady Eagles at bay and give her team a chance. Suvannah Melton made that pay off for the Hillcats in the 79th minute, scoring off a cross from Marlaina Trahant.
OC had a pair of shots in the final minutes, but Stover stopped those attempts by
Lauren Parker and
Oby Okeke.
Schanz made four saves for OC, raising her season total to 106, the third-highest in the Heartland.
The game was the last in an OC uniform for two seniors, defender
Amanda Cooper and forward
Sophia Brazil.
