Box Score LAREDO, Texas (Oct. 15, 2016) – To call Saturday afternoon frustrating for Oklahoma Christian's women's soccer team would be an understatement.
For the second straight year, OC outshot Texas A&M International on the road but didn't score, and the Dustdevils took advantage to beat the Lady Eagles 1-0.
Mariana Avina scored on a close-in shot in the 43rd minute off a pass from Monica Castro, and TAMIU (1-13, 1-9 Heartland Conference) prevailed in its final home game of the season.
OC (4-8-2, 2-6-2) posted a 14-13 edge in shots, but only four of the Lady Eagles' shots came after halftime. The Lady Eagles had two apparent goals called back after officials ruled them to be offside.
"Tough result for our girls in a tough place to play," OC coach
Randall Robison said. "We possessed the ball quite well today. We created enough opportunities in the final third, but need to be a bit more efficient with our finishing. We were unlucky on the two goals pulled out of the net. There was great build-up from us on both, but they were deemed offside.
"Credit to TAMIU – they defended very well and kept numbers behind the ball today."
TAMIU goalkeeper Kiyana Lopez made seven saves, while her OC counterpart,
Carina Schanz, had four saves.
OC will play its final two home games of the season next week against St. Edward's (Texas) on Thursday and Dallas Baptist (Texas) on Saturday.
