OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Oct. 16, 2008) – It was smooth sailing for the Oklahoma Christian University Lady Eagles at home Thursday, as they defeated Wayland Baptist University 4-0.
The Lady Eagles got off to a quick start, getting a goal from Emily Spirek in the sixth minute of the game. Spirek netted the ball after a shot from Stephanie Duncan hit the goal post and bounced back in play.
Later in the first half, the Lady Eagles struck again to extend their lead to 2-0. Duncan scored her sixth goal of the season in the 23rd minute of the game when the ball got away from WBU goalkeeper Kylie Middleton.
It was more of the same in the second half for the Lady Eagles, as Hope Heinen found the net for the fourth time this season to stretch the OC lead to 3-0.
The Lady Eagles put the game out of reach late in the second half when Chelsea Woods scored off of a Caitlyn Wells assist to make the score 4-0.
The game was all Lady Eagles from start to finish as they outshot WBU 34-4. OC goalkeeper Lisa Jorgensen recorded her fourth shutout of the season, making three saves in the game.
Oklahoma Christian improved to 2-2-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play and 6-5-1 overall. Wayland fell to 1-5-0 and 2-8-1.
The Lady Eagles will return to action on Saturday at home against current SAC leader Oklahoma City University. The women's game will start at 6 p.m. and the men's game will start at 8 p.m.
