OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Sept. 8, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian University women's soccer team had their second shutout of the season on Tuesday night in a 3-0 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Now 4-0 on the season, the Lady Eagles are only the second team in school history to achieve such a record.
To start the game, the Lady Eagles took a quick lead with a successful shot by Stephanie Duncan off an assist by Heather Spencer. The goal was Duncan's 3rd for the season. Later in the first half, OC's Addie Ryan scored the second goal of the game from a Taylor Cofer assist to extend the Lady Eagles' lead to 2-0.
The OC women came back ready to play in the second half and were supported by a strong defense that only allowed one shot on goal for the entire game. Midway through the half, Addie Ryan netted her second goal of the game off another assist by Taylor Cofer to put the Lady Eagles at a 3-0 lead.
For the remainder of the half, OC continued the shutout and pressed hard to the end of the game to secure the victory over the Southwestern Oklahoma State Lady Bulldogs.
The Oklahoma Christian Lady Eagles are now 4-0 to start off the season and are the only team to do so since the 2006 squad that went 16-0-2 for an undefeated regular season. The 2006 team started the season with eight straight wins. "I am very proud of this team," head coach Randall Robinson said. "This is a great start to our season. The girls have worked very hard while adapting to our new system and they only continue to improve. Defeating two NCAA teams so far is a great way for us to start and to build into conference play."
In the first NAIA coaches' poll of the season, the Oklahoma Christian women are ranked 20th after not being ranked in the preseason poll. Read the article.
The Lady Eagles return to the field Sept. 12 to host Dallas Baptist (Texas) at home in a women's and men's double header at 6 p.m., while the Eagles will host Hillsdale Baptist (Okla.) at 8 p.m. The Eagles will also host Lindenwood (Mo.) at 4 p.m. on Friday Sept. 11.
