OC junior Logan Herbst shot an even-par 72 on Friday on the final day of the World University Golf Championship.
LIBEREC, Czech Republic (July 6, 2012) – Oklahoma Christian golfers Logan Herbst and Preston Wilkins finished tied for 22nd Friday after the final round of the 14th World University Golf Championship, as the U.S. team placed 10th among 19 teams in the event.
Herbst, a junior from Fairview, Okla., closed with an even-par 72 at Ypsilon Golf Resort to finish at 6-under 282, while Wilkins, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., shot a 74. Spain’s Carlos Pigem Xammar won the individual title at 18-under 270, helping his team to a 27-shot win.
A third OC golfer, junior Vilhelm Bogstrand, played for his home nation of Norway. Bogstrand shot a 73 Friday and finished tied for 42nd at 1-over 289. Former OC golfer Tor-Erik Knudsen, also playing for Norway, fired a 5-under 67 to close tied for 31st at 3-under 285. As a team, Norway finished 14th.
Wilkins played the tournament as the U.S. team’s individual entrant, meaning his score didn’t count toward the team score. He and Herbst tied with their U.S. teammate, True Graves of Odessa (Texas) College, who posted a 70 on Friday.
Josh Manske of Grand View (Iowa) shot a 78 to finish tied for 45th at 2-over. The U.S. team’s fifth player, Mitch Tucker of Indian Hills (Iowa) Community College, posted a 72 and closed at 7-over, tied for 57th. OC men’s coach David Lynn served as a co-coach for the U.S. team.
Spain finished with a team score of 808, followed by Ireland and Great Britain (tied at 835), South Korea (838), Chinese Taipei (840), Sweden (841), France (842), Italy (843), Canada (846) and the U.S. (848).
