EDMOND, Okla. (July 11, 2012) – Oklahoma Christian golfers Kyle Hudelson and Taylor Williams played the past two days at Oak Tree National in the 109th Trans-Mississippi Championship, one of the nation’s top amateur tournaments.
Williams, a sophomore from Chickasha, shot a 4-over-par 75 in Tuesday’s first round and fired a 73 on Wednesday to make the cut in the 154-player tournament. At 6-over 148, Williams trails the leader, Tyler Raber of El Macero, Calif., and California-Davis, by 13 shots.
The tournament will end with 36 holes on Thursday. Among the previous winners of the Trans-Mississippi Championship are Jack Nicklaus, Bob Tway and Ben Crenshaw – all winners of major professional golf championships.
Williams started his Wednesday round on hole No. 10 and was 5-over through 14 holes. He would have missed the cut, but he recorded consecutive birdies on the par-4 No. 6, the par-4 No. 7 and the par-3 No. 8.
Hudelson, a senior from Edmond, followed up a first-round 81 with a 72 on Wednesday, but missed the cut (149) by four shots.
Hudelson’s best shot Wednesday came on the par-4 No. 7, when he hit his approach shot within a foot of the cup. He tapped in for a birdie.
