Lady Eagles Win Region VI

CALIFORNIA BOUND! The Cinderella Lady Eagles of Oklahoma Christian defeated top seeded Northwestern Oklahoma State in a double overtime shootout in Alva, Okla., Nov. 9. The victory earned OC a berth in the 21st annual NAIA National WOmen's Soccer Championship in Santa Barbara, Calif. Nov. 17-23.

Tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and a pair of 10-minute overtimes, the Lady Eagles won the sudden death shootout 4-3.

Scoring for OC were junior Candace Spencer, freshman Kristin Brown, junior Jessica McElvany and freshman Meagan Pless with the final kick. Senior Chelsee Truesdell had three saves against the Northwestern shots.

In regulation play Northwestern's Sherina Wood gave the Lady Rangers a 1-0 lead with a goal at 13:04 of the first half. Lady Eagles senior Susan Myers scored OC's goal in the 75th minute of play to force the overtime periods.

Each team was credited with 17 shots but OC's Truesdell earned 11 saves in the contest.

Pairings for the NAIA National Championship are still to be determined.
