Lady Eagles fall 1-0 to Texas-Tyler

SHREVEPORT, La. (August 30, 2008) – One goal was all the University of Texas at Tyler needed to upend Oklahoma Christian University on Saturday afternoon at the Louisiana State at Shreveport Tournament.

The NCAA Division II Lady Patriots won 1-0 thanks to a first-half score from Lauren Thomas in the 20th minute.

Oklahoma Christian is now 0-2 in 2008 after falling to another Division II opponent, Central Oklahoma, 2-0 on Aug. 28.

OC was outshot in the contest 13-9, with UTT firing six shots on goal to the Lady Eagles' three. The Lady Patriots tallied six corner kicks to OC's zero.

Freshman Hope Heinen put two of the Lady Eagles' three shots on goal into the hands of UTT goalkeeper Sam Fraser, who had three saves. OC keeper Lisa Jorgensen snared five saves. Jill Lintner had OC's only other shot on goal.

The win takes the Lady Patriots to 1-0 after finishing 13-4-3 in 2007 and being picked No. 2 in the American Southwest Conference preseason poll this season.

The Lady Eagles are off tomorrow before playing LSU-Shreveport at 1 p.m. on Monday. It will be the first meeting ever between OC and LSUS. The Lady Pilots received one vote in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll.
