Lady Eagles win at SWOSU

Sept. 6, 2007 - No. 20 Oklahoma Christian rode goals from three players to a 3-1 win over NCAA Division II Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford Thursday.

The Lady Eagles are now 2-1 on the year as they prepare to host No. 24 William Jewell (Mo.) Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

OC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when sophomore Stephanie Duncan put the ball home off an assist from Taryn Caylor-Kingery. Southwestern answered less than eight minutes later on a goal from Jamie Hilterbran to tie score at 1-1.

The Lady Eagles shut out the Lady Bulldogs from there, however. Freshman Emma Cole bombed home a 40-yard shot off an assist from Duncan in the game's 58th minute to put OC up 2-1. Caylor-Kingery dribbled past the defense and scored in the 82nd minute to bring the final tally to 3-1.

"We had a much better effort tonight," OC head coach Sean O'Connor said. "Our whole team played very strong, especially Taryn, Duncan and Meagan Pless. Our defenders were excellent as well."

The Lady Eagles entered the NAIA's top 25 this week. They finished last season at No. 8 in the NAIA's final poll.
